Here is the latest from the brand new Bootham Futsal Club.  We are getting into Christmas Party season, so numbers were low again.  We work with what we have, and we can’t ever underestimate the hard work all the players put in.

We started the first group with some more ball skills, playing a few games of king of the ring and bull dog.  Coach Chris got is ankles kicked on several occasions, how these girls love a tackle!  We then progressed onto a two ball game in which there were 2 balls on court and get one goal, your team had to score with both balls.  this is hard for the younger age group to focus on both balls, but they did a fantastic job with some great passing and recovery runs.

We moved on to a 4 goal game in which a team could either score in the big goal at the end of the court, or the smaller goal on half way.  Again, great to watch the girls work out where to attack and which goals needed defending, not an easy concept to understand.  We finished with a small game in which Coach Suzy’s  side beat Coach Chris’s by one goal!  “We were robbed,” cried Coach Chris, “revenge will be ours!”

We started the older group with a warm up game of noughts and crosses, and we are sure some of them have never played the game before!

They then tried a 4v1 game in which the attackers were timed to see how long it took for them to score 4 goals, with another defender being added after each goal, until we got to 4v3.  If the defenders scored, the attackers lost a goal.  We coached the girls to use as much of the court as possible and attack as quick as possible.

We moved on to a 3v1 session, with a recovering defender, with a transition to another attacking player and finally a 3v3, all on the full court.  The girls worked really hard at this, as it really is end to end, with no stopping.  We spoke about how much time you have in an overload, and how you can utilise this to the best advantage.

Next week is the last session of the year before the Christmas break.  It has been a great start to the club with over 30 girls trying futsal, some for the very first time.  We still have a couple of places open, why not come and have a go?  Drop us a note, what have you got to lose?

Player of the week for the Under 11s was Clare, who is such a hard worker.  She has fantastic control of the ball and a demon drag back trick.  We love the way she is so enthusiastic in everything she does and is fabulous to coach!  Well done Clare, keep up this great start.

Player of the week for the Over 12s was Chloe, and boy is she getting better!  She doesn’t believe how good she is, and we mean, she is very good!  Her control and composure on the ball are superb, and we even managed to get her to attack and score a goal!  Believe in yourself Chloe, you are a seriously good player!
