Happy New Year to everyone and the first session of 2019 at Bootham Futsal Club. We had two new girls trying futsal for the first time, welcome Ella and Poppy, we hope you had fun and look forward to seeing you again.

The younger group started with a fast feet warm from Coach Alan. They then played some 5v3 games across the court. The 5 had to attack a small goal, while the 3 had a normal size goal to attack. We worked on when and how you should attack with the different numbers of players.

The girls then played some full court matches with each player on 3 touch. The girls have really improved their passing and movement and we saw some excellent play with some fabulous finishing. A great start to the year, well done everyone!

The older group started with the cone game. This is a full court game in which every player has a cone that they drop when they complete a pass. To score, they have to get all their cones on the floor. If they lose possession, they have to collect their cone before they are back in the game. It is very hard work and the girls did brilliant.

They then moved onto 3v2 across the width of the court, with different size goals as with the younger group. We worked with 2 on getting their shots away early and not pressing too high, but defending their goal. We coached the 3 to be more patient in possession and use their player advantage to frustrate the opposition. Considering it was the first session back after the break, we saw some great futsal!

Player of the week for the First Hour was Emily-Sue. She has been with us since the very first session and is one of the most consistent players we have. Week in week out she always gives 100% and is becoming a very good futsal player. Great start to the year Emily-Sue!

Player of the week for the Second Hour was Lily S. A natural athlete who has the potential to become a very good futsal player. Today was the first time she put all the pieces together and produce a good all round performance, the best she has done yet! We can’t wait to see how far Lily develops!
