On Sunday 10 March 2019, in front of eager parents and family members, on the main futsal court at the University of York and before the Super League game of York Futsal Vs Manchester Futsal, Bootham U12s played a friendly against Boro Rangers.

Boro Rangers previously beat Bootham in the FA Futsal Youth cup regional qualifiers earlier in the year, and will represent North Riding County FA in Hull for the next round later this month.

The Bootham team was Katie J, Elena R, Lyla, Holly, Emily-Sue, Clare, Sophie, Freya and Emma.

The game was played to a constant clock and 15 minutes each way. In a match that was a real credit to girls’ futsal, we saw some brilliant play and commitment from all the players, as well as a couple of amazing goals – one from Boro Rangers with an absolute screamer, and one from Freya, with a delightful chip from just on halfway.

The final score was 5-2 to Bootham, with goals from Clare, Sophie, Holly, Freya and Katie J, but both teams created plenty of chances to score.

The players, manager, parents and supporters, who had travelled all the way from Middlesbrough for the match, were a real credit to their club and we hope to welcome them back very soon.

Player of the match was Lyla – she made some fantastic saves in the match and was brilliant throughout the whole game. She came out of her area and cleared the ball when it mattered and overall had a fantastic game, well done Lyla!
