With this being the last session of the year, we decided to have some fun with the players!
After a warm up run by Coach Paul, in which the players did some relay races, we split the girls into 3 teams. They played each other in 7 minute matches with an empathises on showing what they had learnt over the previous 12 weeks. The standard of futsal on show was fantastic and as coaches we just sat back and watched the games. We finished the session with an everyone on court game – chaos but great fun!
With over 75% of this group being new to futsal this year, we are so impressed by the progress they have made. With lots of them asking about playing for the ladies team in the future, the future looks very bright.
The older group started with a keep ball warm up, before being split into 3 teams. As with the younger groups they played each other in a round robin tournament. The biggest improvement we have seen in this group, is the way that they keep the ball and look to play off as few touches as possible. At the start of the season we saw players running with the ball until they lost it, now they look to play as a team.
It has been a very difficult year for the club. We started under lockdown, managed a few session in April and May before stopping for the summer. We lost a lot of members and at one point had only 8 players signed on, and we were seriously worried if we had a club to come back to. But, with the help of many different people and coaches, we started again in September and now have more members than we have ever had. The ladies team is progressing well and we will once again host the The FA Pokemon Youth Futsal Cup 2021-22 first round qualifiers in January 2022.
A huge thank you to every single player, parents, volunteer and coach, without you all the club is nothing. Have a fantastic Christmas, very safe New Year and we will see you back at training on Sunday 9th January 2022.
