Match Report

Well, what can we say about today’s match away at Copmanthorpe…simply brilliant!  We knew this match was going to be hard as Copmanthorpe are a very strong and physical side but the girls responded with the best passing and moving display ever!

As always we started a little slow before we got in to the game but once we got going we were unstoppable.  It took us just under 10 minutes for Alexia to score the first goal and by half time we were 4-0 up.  The girls’ passing and movement were simply outstanding today and Copmanthorpe had a hard time to even touch the ball.  The combination play between Alexia, Chloe J and Denva would have caused a much stronger team problems.

Only two minutes in to the second half we were 5-0 up thanks to captain Denva.  The defence was solid and kept Copmanthorpe away time and time again.  By the end of the match we had run out winners 9-0 and with another 18 shots on target, the score could have been many more.

Grace, Chloe H and Lauren all looked very solid in defence and their confidence to play the ball out from the back time and time again was a delight to watch.  Amber and Denva in midfield showed a real maturity by taking it in turns to support the forwards but always making sure the defence had help.  Alexia and Chloe J played probably the best they have ever done together with their one twos and interchanges causing the Copmanthorpe defence problems all day.

Special mention to Chloe J who last week had 10 shots off target.  We talked before the game and spoke about being careful with her finishing and possibly looking for a pass instead of a shot.  Today she had 11 shots on target, created several goals and finished with a hat-trick.  On another day and against a weaker goalkeeper, Copmanthorpe’s best player, she would have been in double figures.  A fantastic improvement on last week!

From the coaches’ point of view, we think it is the best the team have ever played.  Not something we can say lightly after the seasons this team has had.  We spoke at the start of the season about what the team could learn from this season, and so far, touch wood, they have been magnificent.  The real challenge is can they give the same performance next week?
