On Sunday 18 Match 2018 we played a club game in which the U14s played against the rest of the older group, ranging from U12s to U16s.  We brought in two girls from Manor Futsal Club, Matilde and Abbi, girls who will represent Bootham Futsal Club in the FA Regional Qualifiers later in the year.

They played 20 minutes each way with a continuous clock, and we refereed the game as per normal competition futsal rules.

The teams were:

Bootham Futsal Club U14s – Hannah, Niamh, Drew, Lily, Alice, Matilde, Abbi

The Rest U12s – U16s – Chloe (U16), Tegan (U16), Beth (U12), Kimberly (U14), Ruby U12), Freya (U12), Robyn (U14).

First Half

The U14s got off to the perfect start, when Alice robbed Chloe on the edge of the D and scored from close range.  Niamh went close a minute later when her cross shot was saved by Kimberly.  The Other nearly drew level when Abbi made two good stops, first from Tegan and then Beth.  Abbi again made a great double save, from Beth and then from Ruby.  After some great battling from Ruby and Beth in the centre of the court, Abbi again saved from Beth.

On 12 minutes The Others finally drew level, when a corner found its way to Freya, and her tame shot deflected off Matilde and into the net. Immediately The Others went looking for a second and after some good possession, Chloe shot from near the halfway line, comfortably saved by Abbi.  Right on the stroke of half time, and a move involving the whole team, The Other’s Ruby smashed the ball home with her left foot.

Half-time: Bootham Futsal Club U14s 1 – 2 The Others

Second Half

Within 5 minutes of the restart, great play between Ruby and Beth, gave Freya a tap in at the far post for The Others.  Beth added to the score when she chased down a ball through the middle and despite heavy pressure slammed a shot past Abbi in the U14s goal.  The Others were on top now and Tegan brought out another good save from Abbi.  Robyn added a fifth for The Others when she seized upon a loose pass from Alice, and ran half the length of the court before passing the ball into the net.

As the game approached the final quarter, and with the The Others well on top, the U14s stage a bit of a comeback, with Alice testing Kimberly with a long ranged effort.  Robyn stole the ball again and repeated the goal scoring with another very neat finish.  The U14s then scored twice in 1 minute, first from Lily, and then the best goal of the game involved Matilde, Lily and Niamh finishing first time.  The last word of the game went to the The Others when a quick break involving Tegan and Ruby, saw Beth smash home the ball with her left foot.

Full-time: Bootham Futsal Club U14s 3 – 7 The Others

The game was a great exercise for all involved, with some great possession from the The Others.  The U14s played well but didn’t keep the ball as well as they could.

Girl Of The Game – Chloe – She looks so composed on the ball and very rarely gave the ball away.  Her positioning was brilliant and many times she broke up attacks with clever interceptions, and started counter attacks with good passing.  Overall a superb performance!

In conversation afterwards Coach Chris said ‘We wanted the girls to play a game with the full rules that they will come up against in the regional tournaments, and they all did fantastically well.  We had a couple missing but I think Kimberly in goal did very well, I loved they way she tried to play a fly goalkeepers role, great to watch.  Chloe was outstanding, such a good player who needs to believe in how good she really is!

He went onto say, ‘Considering some of the players are still learning the game, we had some great performance from Freya, Ruby and Beth, all of them really U12s, which really does put their performance into context, simple brilliant.’

He finishes by saying, ‘The club is still growing and all the players have upped their game from when they started.  The future looks really bright and we can’t wait for the FA Futsal Qualifiers, we think we can do very well and get at least one team to the national finals!’
