On Saturday 15 December, York Futsal entertained Loughborough Futsal Club, one of the form sides in the National Futsal Super League.  They have lost only 1 of their previous 6 outings, with an impressive defeat of Sussex on the way.

York were missing the injured Daniel Pedras, but welcomed for his first home game, talented teenager Kalil Juny.

York started the game in determined mood and inside the first minute and half could have been ahead, when a rasping drive from Roly Donoso was well saved by the Loughborough keeper.  York captain, Fabinho Almeida, went close on 4 minutes but just missed the target from close range.

On 10 minutes, and totally against the run of play, Loughborough took the lead with a well taken quick break.  York came storming back and Michael Bulmer saw his effort fly agonisingly over the bar.  Roly Donoso again saw his shot brilliantly saved brilliantly on 16 minutes and it was starting to look like not York’s day in front of goal.

With just under 2 minutes to go in the half, York conceded their 6th foul and Loughborough were awarded a 10-metre penalty.  The Loughborough player stepped up but saw his effort brilliantly saved by Martin Michels in the York goal.

York came out for the second half with a determination to finally get on the score sheet and created several good chances within the first 5 minutes, but just couldn’t beat the Loughborough keeper.

After only 6 minutes York flew their keeper and looked to dominate possession to get the all-important break through.  Almost immediately Fabinho Almeida nearly scored.  On 10 minutes a misplaced pass from York and Loughborough broke quickly.  The first shot was saved by Martin Michels only for the ball rebound to the Loughborough forward who calmly placed the ball in to the back of the York net.

York continued to push and dominated possession for the rest of the half.  It wasn’t going to be York’s day and in the dying moments a tackle by Roly Donoso was given a straight red by the referee, much to the surprise of the York players.

In conversation afterwards, Matt Overton said, ‘The first half wasn’t good enough by our standards, but the second half we fixed a few things, added more intensity and we did a lot better.’
