On Sunday 27th May, Bootham Futsal Club hosted the second day of the York Futsal Cup for girls.  The event is the area qualifier for the Yorkshire & NE FA Youth Futsal Cup regional qualifier, with the national finals to be held in Birmingham in June.

With a late withdrawal from one of the sides, we were left with 3 teams to battle out the U14s championship.  Bootham Reds started with a convincing win over Kirk Deighton but in the next match a draw between both Bootham sides saw the title being decided on the last match.  Bootham Blues scored early on but couldn’t convert their possession in more goals.  The final table saw Bootham Reds beat Bootham Blues by goal difference.

U14s League Table:

Team Name Played Won Drawn Lost Goals For Goals Against Points
Bootham Futsal Reds U14s  2  1  1  0  10  3  4
Bootham Futsal Blues U14s  2  1  1  1  6  4  4
Kirk Deighton Rangers U13s  2  0  0  2  1 10  0

The U16s was a much closer affair!  They played a straight qualifying game against Rawcliffe U15s.  The game was a very tense affair with Bootham having lots of possession but unable to beat the Rawcliffe goalkeeper.  The game was tied at 3-3 with just under 2 minutes to go, and then Bootham scored two quick goals to finally win it 5-3.

In conversation afterwards with Coach Chris, he said, ‘After last week’s event, we were really happy with the way everything has gone.  I am pleased that both the U14s and U16s both qualified for the next round, the U14s look very strong.

He finished by saying, ‘A huge thank you to every team that supported our first ever girls’ futsal tournament, without the other teams, especially at the very short notice, we had no competition!  We are talking to the county FA about making this an annual event, so who knows, we may all be back next year, doing this all again!’

So, Bootham Futsal Club U16s progress on to the next round at the University of York on Sunday 10th June, and the U14s on Sunday 17th June.  There they will take on the best from Yorkshire and the North East for a place in the national finals in Birmingham.  Good luck to both teams!
