The second home game of York City FC Futsal club’s season was against last season’s champions, Reading Futsal Club.  The game turned out to be one of the best games seen at the home of York City FC Futsal.

The game started in very controversial style, when in the first few minutes the Reading goalkeeper tripped Daniel Pedras on the halfway line with no covering defender.  On another day it would have been a straight red but the referee only awarded the goalkeeper a yellow card, a big let off for the visitors.  York had started on the front foot and created several early chances, but couldn’t force the ball home.  Reading took the lead against the run of play, but York came storming back and substitute Mychaell da Silva scored pretty much with his first touch!  Half time 1-1.

The second half started with Reading coming out all guns blazing.  Within the first 5 minutes they took the lead.  Again York came back and captain Fabinho Almeida equalised from close range.  Reading retook the lead with a large slice of luck.  A long-range shot, which York goalkeeper Martin Michels pushed on to the post, rebounded off the back of his head into the goal, incredibly unlucky.  However, York were not to be beaten and super sub Mychaell da Silva was gifted an equaliser when a Reading player back-heeled the ball straight to him with just the goalkeeper to beat!

The last 5 minutes were frantic with both sides pushing for the win.  In the very last seconds, and with Reading flying their keeper, Daniel Pedras stole the ball but couldn’t get it out of his feet, and the game ended just before he was able to roll the ball into the opposition’s empty net!  What a game and a great advert for futsal!
