York City FC Futsal started their first home game of the new season against Oxford City FC.  After last week’s brilliant 6-5 away win at Birmingham, hopes were high for another good result.

York started brightly and took the lead through Daniel Pedras on 9 minutes.  They had chances to increase their lead but Oxford came back strong towards halftime and only good goalkeeping from Martin Michels kept them out.  A great first half for York, and plenty to play for in the second.

The game changed within 6 minutes of the restart when Oxford scored 2 quick goals, both from poor defending.  Oxford added a third with a well worked corner that was smashed into the roof of the York net.  York came back very strong and only brilliant saves and the post stopped them from scoring.  In the last-minute, York flew their goalkeeper and claimed a penalty when the ball struck an arm in the Oxford area.  The referee didn’t give it and Oxford lofted the ball from their own area into the empty York goal.  Full time York City FC Futsal 1 – Oxford 4.

Not the result York wanted, but the game was much closer than the scoreline suggested.  Plenty of optimism in the squad as they go again next Sunday away to Southend Futsal Club.
