Sunday saw York City FC Futsal play their second home game of the season against league strugglers, London Genesis.  After a disappointing away trip to Oxford City Lions, York were looking to bounce back with a convincing win.

From the start York dominated possession and created chance after chance, but couldn’t find the killer finish.  Captain Miguel De Vicente came off the bench for his first kick of the game, and promptly smashed the ball into the roof of the net from a free kick!  Just before the break Daniel Pedras hammered in York’s second, before then missing a 10 metre penalty right on the stroke of halftime.

The second half started like the first with York in total domination.  Debutant York goalkeeper, Martin Michels, made a great double save to keep York’s lead intact.  York scored their third when De Vincente broke quick and squared for an expert finish from Pedras.  Daniel Pedras completed his hat-trick late on when he beat 2 players before, somehow, managing to squeeze the ball under the Genesis goalkeeper, great finish from a tight angle.

Goal of the game was saved for the end.  In the last 5 minutes Genesis flew their goalkeeper to create an extra outfield player.  From one of these attacks, York goalkeeper Michels saved comfortably and without thinking, calmly cleared the ball straight into an unguarded Genesis goal.  Final score York City FC Futsal 5 – London Genesis 0.

Next week sees York travel to unbeaten league leaders Reading Escolla.  This will be a real test of how York have started this season and manager Junior Roberti can’t wait!
