The younger group started the session by trying some of the new England DNA Foundation exercises.  Needless to say from the images, you can see everyone, including the parents, had a great laugh! If you have yet to try any of these, get on HIVE LEARNING and have a look, they really are brilliant.

We concentrated this week on passing.  The girls worked across the court in groups of 2 and 3, passing and receiving the ball using various patterns.  These involved 1-2s, through the legs, and running towards and back from a starting position.  The standard was very high and we saw some great combinations on display.

We finished the session with some games in which we asked the girls to try to apply the techniques we had worked on earlier.  This is included hiding and looking after the ball, especially in contact with the opposition.  We have really seen a huge improvement in this younger group in their physicality when playing the game, the coaches are seriously impressed!

The older group did exactly the same sessions as the younger group, but we concentrated more on the technical parts of the exercises.

This included in the passing exercise we looked at which part of the foot the girls used when passing and receiving the ball.  We asked them to try to use both feet whenever possible.  One area we focused on was to make sure they were always moving forwards when making and receiving a pass.  The temptation was to make the first pass and then stand still while waiting for the return.  We showed the girls how much space and time you could create if you timed your run to be on the move when passing and receiving.

Needless to say in the games at the end, the players passing had really improved and we saw some wonderful examples of what we had been talking about throughout the session.

Player of the week for the First Hour was Ruby.  When we did the exercise on looking after the ball, Ruby was simply brilliant, using her body to protect the ball and being really physical.  We really do think the futsal future is very bright for Ruby, we can’t wait!

Player of the week for the Second Hour was Chloe.  One of the girls from the very first Bootham session, Chloe has all the attributes to go all the way.  She is constantly at the top of the group and always give 100%.  Simply put, one of our brightest stars!

We will be starting an advertising campaign for recruitment in the New Year.  Places across the various age groups are now very limited, with the U16s completely full.  Get in touch if you would like more information, and why not join one of the fastest growing girls only clubs in the area!
