With the rain again hammering it down outside, it was a perfect day for futsal – we couldn’t have been more warmer or drier!

We concentrated today on game play. With so many new girls in each age group, we introduce several of the main rules of the games, i.e. kick-ins, corners, and the time clock. The first group played games of 4 minutes each with Coach Chris and U16 Kimberly as goalkeepers. We also asked them to concentrate on recovery, making sure they got back behind the ball, or at least tried too when their team lost the ball.

We saw so many fantastic performances this week, the girls really work so hard. Brilliant to watch and great futsal from so many of them.

The older group did the same, but we played two teams of 3 and 1 of 4, with Coaches Chris and Suzy as the fly goalkeepers. We worked on the position to take up when your team lost the ball, making sure you could see everyone on the court, and defending from the correct side. We also gave them a scoring zone, making sure they worked the ball high up the court before trying to score.

We saw some fantastic recovery runs from so many players today, with full court sprints from so many. It really shows the desire from this group to improve, well done everyone!

Player of the week for the younger group was Sienna – wow, what had this kid had for breakfast!!?? She was everywhere on the court – tackling, running and shooting – we have never seen her work this hard! What a fantastic performance, keep it up Sienna, brilliant session!

Player of the week for the older group was Emily-Sue – she started slowly and took her time but by the end of the session she was really getting stuck in. She has such good feet, just needs to trust herself and be more positive when she has the ball. Well done Emily-Sue, great session!
