League Game 9 – City of York Girls U13s League 2015-2016
York Railway Institute U13s 9 – Bishopthorpe White Rose U13s 0
Goalscorers – Alexia x5, Chloe J x3, Denva
After an early morning pitch inspection, the match was able to go ahead. With a very strong squad available for coach Chris Collins to choose from, confidence was high, especially after last week’s win.
Lucy kept her starting place up front alongside Alexia, captain Denva and Amber started in midfield and the very strong defensive pairing of Chloe H and Lauren started at the back, Katie in goal. Chloe J, Kimberly and Tegan, making her York RI debut, were the substitutes.
York RI started with their usual fast pace and took the lead after only a minute. Lauren’s thrown in to Denva, was passed through to Alexia on the left and she ran through a static Bishopthorpe defence to place the ball into the net.
York RI extended their lead on 7 minutes when a corner from Amber wasn’t dealt with and a poor clearance from Bishopthorpe gave the ball to Alexia a metre from goal, who rolled the ball into the empty net. Two minutes later Alexia nearly completed her hat-trick when a kick from the goalkeeper was won by Denva on halfway, she fed Alexia on the right and her powerful cross shot was well saved.
On 13 minutes York RI broke out from their own half for Amber to nearly score twice. Great work from Chloe J, who beat two defenders to feed Amber just inside her own half. She ran through before hammering a shot which the goalkeeper did well to save. The rebound was collected by Denva on the left, who gave the ball back to Amber, whose shot from well outside the penalty area was again well saved by the goalkeeper.
York RI were creating plenty of chances now, and on 15 minutes Denva was unlucky to not get on the score sheet. A goal kick from Katie was collected by Denva on halfway, she powered through the Bishopthorpe defence with some wonderful footwork, before her shot came back off the foot of the post with the goalkeeper standing and watching.
Katie made her first impression on the game after 16 minutes when the York RI defence was ball watching, and she had to come quickly off her line to save bravely at her feet of the Bishopthorpe forward.
Chloe J came on for Lucy and made an immediate impact. Amber picked up a loose ball in midfield and fed Chloe J on the right. She turned inside the defender but shot straight at the goalkeeper. A couple of minutes later she nearly scored again. A free kick from Bishopthorpe was intercepted by Denva, whose perfect through ball sent Chloe J racing in on the Bishopthorpe goal. Her low shot struck the outstretched leg of the keeper and rebounded to safety.
The York RI defence was looking very strong, determined to keep a clean sheet, with Lauren and Chloe H defending brilliantly. They look a very strong pair and their passing out from the back is becoming a real feature of how York RI play.
On the stroke of half time and with the best move of the match Denva nearly scored. Amber cleared the ball from inside her own penalty area, and substitute Tegan on halfway battled well to feed Denva. She drove into the penalty area and played a sublime one two with Chloe J and from only a metre completely missed the ball.
Half Time: York Railway Institute 2 – Bishopthorpe White Rose 0
The second half started just like the first with York RI scoring after only a minute with a contender for goal of the season. Chloe J swapped passes with Kimberly before she crossed towards Alexia, who attempted to control the ball with her right foot and back to goal, but the ball bounced up. Alexia quickly flicked the ball over the defender with the outside of her right foot, ran round and placed the ball brilliantly into the bottom corner. It was a class finish from a player who must be destined for greater things in the professional game.
A minute later Alexia got another. Kimberly won the ball deep in her own half and passed a great ball to Chloe J on the right. Chloe J took one touch and with the pass of the game picked out Alexia’s run. Alexia rounded the goalkeeper and passed the ball into an empty net, a great team goal. Alexia nearly got another 3-minute hat-trick when she met Chloe J’s corner with a brave header, but it sailed just over.
Chloe J was becoming a dominate force in the game and she nearly scored on 36 minutes. She intercepted a goal kick, controlled with one touch and hammered the ball back towards the goal with her second. The goalkeeper did well to get back and clear the ball away. A minute later she did score. A long throw from Denva caused panic in the Bishopthorpe defence. The ball was cleared high to the York right, where Chloe J from well outside the penalty area with her first touch, hammered the ball into the goal past a bewildered goalkeeper. Two minute later Chloe J got her second. Another long throw from Denva somehow found its way to Chloe J, and her challenge on the goalkeeper somehow ended up with the ball in the net.
Lucy nearly scored her first goal for York RI with 10 minutes to go. A long throw from Chloe H was won by Denva, who fed Alexia with a one on one with the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper did brilliant to save Alexia’s shot but the rebound fell perfectly for Lucy. Unfortunately, her first time shot whistled just past the left post.
York RI got their 7th when a long ball from Chloe H didn’t run out of play as the defenders expected. Chloe J pressured the defender into a poor pass which was picked up by Alexia. She beat two defenders inside the penalty area before passing the ball into the goal.
It was beginning to look like it wasn’t going to be Denva’s day when on 42 minutes she fed Alexia from Lauren’s throw in. Alexia lifted the ball over the defence for Denva to run onto and shoot, only to see the goalkeeper make another good save low to her right.
Chloe J completed her hat-trick on 44 minutes. Amber won the ball from a Bishopthorpe throw in and fed Denva outside her own penalty area. She brushed off the Bishopthorpe player and ran half the length of the field before releasing the ball to Chloe J just inside the penalty area, who calmly slotted the ball past the static goalkeeper.
Denva finally got her well-deserved goal straight from the kick off. She intercepted the ball and fed Alexia down the York RI left. She skipped round the defenders’ challenge and crossed into the penalty area. Without breaking stride Denva side footed the ball first time into the goal for York’s 9th of the day. It was just rewards for Denva who had a hand in so many of the goals today and her powerful runs from midfield caused problems all day for Bishopthorpe.
The final act of the day was for Katie to keep her clean sheet. A great through ball from the Bishopthorpe midfield saw the forward run clean through. Katie quickly came off her line and saved bravely at the forward’s feet.
Final Score: York Railway Institute 9 – Bishopthorpe White Rose 0
Coach Chris Collins was very impressed with his side’s display. ‘It was great to see the new players of Lucy and Tegan play well today. Chloe J made a real impact when she came off the bench, Denva and Amber dominated the midfield, Chloe H and Lauren didn’t miss a tackle all day and Kimberly tackled and passed well today. In training we have been working on getting forward quicker, Denva did that brilliantly today. Overall a great team performance.’
He left his final words for Alexia’s 3rd goal, ‘Simply class, unbelievable for a 13-year-old, the vision to see what was around her, the confidence to try, the ability to execute it and to finish with a goal speaks volumes of this young lady’s abilities.
Special thank you to Ben for a brilliant refereeing performance, he got every decision right and looked after all the players during the whole game.
