League Game 14 – City of York Girls U13s League 2015-2016
York Railway Institute U13s 5 – Rawcliffe U13s 0
Goalscorers – Alexia x3, Chloe J x2
The game started with all the players around the centre circle, the coaches on one side of the pitch and the parents on the other respecting a one minute silence in honour of the 96 people who lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster on the 15th April 1989. The minute was observed in total silence by everyone, showing great respect for those that lost their lives that day,
This was York Railway Institute’s last home game of the year and Coach Chris started with Katie in goal, Lauren and the ever improving Grace in defence, Denva partnered Lucy in midfield, with Alexia and Chloe J upfront. Coach Chris asked the players to show the same effort and commitment they had done in the previous weeks training.
The game started with York RI straight on top and after only 3 minutes they were ahead. Good work from Denva and Alexia saw the ball find Chloe J right in front of goal. She miss hit the shot but it had enough on it to squeeze inside the far post.
York continued to push and created good chances for Alexia, who was foiled by the keeper’s feet, Lucy, again saved by the keeper’s feet and Denva, whose shot was blocked on the line. On 9 minutes York got their second after good work from Lauren and Grace in defence, put Chloe J clear down the right. Her cross was controlled brilliantly by Alexia who then rifled a low shot into the back of the net.
On 12 minutes Denva suffered a bang to the head after a heavy tackle and she was replaced by Amber. Chloe J was causing all sorts of problems for the Rawcliffe defence down the York right and she nearly scored when she cut inside and fired just wide.
Rawcliffe’s game plan was to clear the ball long and high at every opportunity but Grace and Lauren were dealing with everything. Rawcliffe nearly scored on 20 minutes when following a corner York just couldn’t clear the ball and after a goal mouth scramble Katie fell on the loose ball. Denva replaced the tiring Lucy on 18 minutes, and immediately created a great chance for Alexia, but again the keeper saved well.
York were well on top and controlling the game, and got their third just before half time. Again great work from Grace in defence, saw her find Alexia, whose quick pass was met first time by Amber. The goalkeeper saved the first chance but the ever alert Chloe J was on hand to thump home the rebound.
Half Time: York Railway Institute U13s 3 – Rawcliffe U13s 0
Coach Chris made changes at half time with Kimberly and Chloe H replacing Lauren and Grace in defence. Tegan replaced the impressive Chloe J up front.
Rawcliffe started the second half brightly, but Kimberly and Chloe H were looking very strong in defence and nothing was getting passed them. After 30 minutes a great tackle by Kimberly stopped the Rawcliffe forward in her tracks and she followed it with a great ball down the right for Alexia to test the Rawcliffe goalkeeper.
On 40 minutes York got their fourth when Alexia picked the ball up on half way and drove at the retreating Rawcliffe defence. She exchanged passes with Amber before firing an unstoppable shot in to the far corner of the net.
Tegan was an ever willing runner, and nearly got put through when Amber’s pass was just too long for her. By now in the second half Katie was a virtual spectator, such was the dominance of the York RI defence. On a couple of occasions Chloe H collected the ball in defence before having the confidence to stride well over the half way line before passing to a team-mate, she looked very impressive!
On 38 minutes York got their fifth of the match when Alexia won the ball on the halfway line and drove right through the Rawcliffe defence before side footing the ball into the far corner of the goal, fantastic individual goal.
Immediately Denva and Lauren replaced Amber and Lucy in midfield. A minute later Chloe J replaced Alexia and she almost got her hat trick when her long-range shot sailed just wide. In the final minute York had a series of corners but couldn’t force the ball into the Rawcliffe goal.
Final Score: York Railway Institute U13s 5 – Rawcliffe U13s 0
A very happy Coach said afterwards ‘The players responded brilliantly after the last two games. Training on Wednesday was very good and the players brought the same attitude and commitment to today’s game. Every single player did what was asked from them, and we looked a very good side today. All the defenders worked very hard, with all of them not letting a single player go by them today.’
He had a special mention for Chloe J, he said ‘When she plays like this she is one of the best players in the league, she can be a match winner and I am glad she got her goals today.’
