Match Report

The weather couldn’t have been any worse for the girls’ 12th game of the season. From the moment the coaches started to set the pitch up, the heavens opened and we had rain.

Ever present Katie started in goal, with a back two of Chloe H and Lauren, captain Denva and Amber were the midfield pair and Alexia and Chloe J, who between them have scored 68 goals so far this season, started in attack. Subs were Kimberly, Tegan and the ever improving Lucy.

As is the norm, York RI scored within a minute of the start. Lauren won the ball in her own half and fed Denva on halfway. She found Chloe J, whose perfect pass found Alexia alone on the edge of the penalty area, and she finished with ease. A minute later York RI should have been further ahead when Alexia’s back heel found Chloe J, who shot just wide.

On 6 minutes Alexia returned a goal kick straight passed the Easingwold keeper for a 2 goal lead. They added a third on 11 minutes when Denva was fed by Alexia down the left, she ran towards goal and hammered her shot into the back of the net.

Substitutes Tegan and Kimberly combined well to test the Easingwold keeper. But a minute before half-time a quick corner between Lauren and Chloe J, saw Chloe J run into the penalty area and blast the teams 4th into the net.

Half Time: York Railway Institute U13s 4 – Easingwold Town U13s 0

If anything the rain had got heavier for the start of the second half and everyone was getting soaked.

Lucy and Amber were really dominating the midfield with both covering every part of the field, and with Lauren and Chloe H solid as ever at the back, York RI looked very comfortable.

Tegan was so close a minute after half-time to scoring her first ever York RI goal when Alexia put her clean through with just the goalkeeper to beat, but she skewed her shot just wide.

On 29 minutes Alexia completed yet another York RI hat trick, her 8th of the season. She collected the ball inside her own half before powering the ball into the bottom left of net from fully 20 metres.

Katie made two good saves in the space of a minute, but was finally beaten on 37 minutes when she saved the first shot before the rebound was hit into the empty net from only a metre. Only the 5th goal York RI have conceded this year, but strangely the 4th to Easingwold.

Alexia extended the York RI lead when a good passing move from Amber and Denva put her clean through on the goalkeeper, and she was never going to miss.

In a tactical change, Coach Chris put Chloe H up front to try to get her first goal of the season, much to Chloe’s complaints! It nearly worked on 42 minutes when Chloe J left her with just the goalkeeper to beat, but she miss-controlled the ball, and the chance was lost.

On 45 minutes Katie made the save of the match. First she saved well to push away a cross shot to her left, and from the rebound, when it looked odds on the forward would score, she got back to her feet and pushed the follow-up onto the post, brilliant double save.

Chloe H finally got the goal her season has deserved. From a Katie goal kick, Amber fed Lauren in midfield, and her inch perfect pass found Chloe H with just the goalkeeper to beat, and she calmly passed the ball into the back of the goal. The best part was every outfield player celebrated the goal with her, great team spirit.

A minute from the end Chloe J got York RIs 8th. Lauren won the ball in midfield and passed to Alexia who rode her tackle before playing Chloe J in for another one on one with the goalkeeper, she calmly slotted the ball home.

The final act of the game was a brilliant goal line clearance from Lauren, but in the wrong end. Alexia’s cross was met first time by Chloe J, but her goal bound shot struck Lauren on the head and bounced to safety!

Final Score: York Railway Institute U13s 8 – Easingwold Town U13s 1

Coach Chris Collins in conversation after the match said ‘This was an awful day; the weather was simply terrible. But the girls all worked really hard and in the end the score line reflected their domination. Easingwold always seemed to score against us and that is something we will have to work on.’

He was really pleased for Chloe H and her goal, he commented ‘About 5 minutes before she had a similar chance and just forgot to control the ball, so when the same happened again, I was so pleased she took her time and passed the ball into the goal. All the coaches and players were so pleased for her as she is one of the most improved players this season.’

Awards:

Respect Award – Lucy-Liu – on a horrible wet and rainy day, Lucy was at the ground before even the coaches to help set up for the match.  Her enthusiasm and dedication is something to behold and she well deserves the Respect Award.  The coaches at Pro Coaching are predicting a very exciting future for this young lady.

Team Award – Amber – once again she covered pretty much every blade of grass, and from the moment the whistle blew for the start of the match to the very end, she didn’t stop running.  She is arguably the best team player on the squad!

Man Of The Match – Chloe H – two in a row for the new superstar of the team!  Last week it was for her defending, this week she scored her first league goal of the season, even though she was convinced she would let the team down!  Top player and very well deserved!
