Match Report

After the heavy rain of last week, the match was played out in glorious sunshine, British weather eh?? This was the girls’ first home game of the season and after last week’s match against a new team they played Bishopthorpe White Rose, a team they have played many times.

Bishopthorpe are always very well organised, they play good football and usually score against Railway Institute. The girls started slowly but eventually settled and by half time two goals from Alexia had them winning 2-0. The Bishopthorpe keeper had made some good saves and York had plenty of corners but couldn’t make anything from them. Note to coach: work on corners!

Second half started in pretty much the same way with York dominating the ball but not being able to find a way through the well organised defence. Eventually the warm weather started to take its toll and York finished strong with goals from Denva, Chloe J and Alexia claimed her hat trick with an absolute rocket from outside the box.

Katie made a couple of fantastic brave saves, but needs to work on her distribution at times, not just throwing to the first player but scanning and picking the best option. Grace was outstanding in defence, not missing a thing all day, great performance. Chloe H didn’t have her best day with passing going astray but she kept going and nearly scored a cracker from outside the box. Denva, Lauren and Amber in midfield all worked hard and supported both defence and forwards. Alexia and Chloe J caused problems all day and again the score could have been much greater.

Passing was not as good as the week before and at times players got caught in possession when an easy pass was a better option. All but Grace managed to have a shot, which is a fantastic effort and on another day we would have had 6 different goal scorers. Players need to realise there may be team mates in better positions to shoot but at the same time supporting players still need to make these runs. This is an area the team need to work on in training.

Overall a good day with many positives and plenty for the team to learn from going forward.
