Match Report

For the latest match in the girls’ season Coach Suzy took control of the team as Coach Chris had come down with a stomach bug on the morning of the match. Rawcliffe gave York RI their stiffest challenge earlier in the season and so far are the only team to take the lead against York RI. Coach Suzy expected a similar game today.

York RI chose to leave arguably their best three players on the bench, Chloe J, Denva and Alexia, to see how the rest of the team would cope without the main goal scorers. Katie continued her ever-present form in goal, Chloe H and Lauren started in defence, Kimberly and Lucy started with Amber in a three-man midfield with Tegan the lone forward.

After only 1 minute Kimberly received a knock and was replaced by Denva. Almost immediately York RI took the lead. Good work from Amber down the York RI right, who cut inside and found Denva on the edge of the box, she cut inside and fired a right foot shot into the bottom of the goal.

On 11 minutes York extended their lead. A loose clearance from Rawcliffe was picked up by Amber in midfield. She fed a brilliant pass through to Alexia who slotted the ball past the goalkeeper. A minute later Alexia should have had another. Chloe H won the ball in the York half and played it forward, the Rawcliffe defence missed the ball and Alexia ran through on goal, only to see her shot brilliantly saved by the Rawcliffe goalkeeper.

York continued to control the game and on 17 minutes Denva had a good shot saved. Two minutes later York got their third. A corner from Amber was only half cleared and she fed Denva, who found Alexia on the penalty spot, who turned and scored low to the goalkeeper’s left. From the kick off York should have got another. Alexia won the ball and ran through the whole Rawcliffe team before seeing her shot again being saved by the Rawcliffe goalkeeper, the rebound was put just wide by Denva.

York then scored three goals in three minutes. First Alexia returned a goal kick straight past the goalkeeper, then from a Denva throw-in Chloe J powered a shot through the goalkeeper’s legs and finally right on half time Alexia scored. From a Katie kick, Denva won the ball in midfield and with a clever back heel found Amber, who with a first time pass put Alexia racing through, who finished with ease.

Half Time: Rawcliffe U13s 0 – York Railway Institute U13s 6

Two minutes after half time York RI got another. Good work from Denva and Chloe J saw Lucy have a miss hit shot from inside the box, Alexia pounced on the ball and slammed it into the back of the net. Two minutes later Chloe J got another. Denva, Chloe J and Alexia refused to let Rawcliffe clear the ball and with some brilliant one touch passing finally out Denva in on goal. Her shot was well saved by the goalkeeper but Chloe H was on hand to power the ball into the back of the net.

A minute later Chloe J could have completed her hat trick when she met a great cross from Alexia, her first time was saved by the goalkeeper’s legs. York RI were running riot now and creating chance after a chance. Again Chloe J came close when she collected Kimberly’s long ball before racing threw and just missing the far post.

The impressive Denva got her second and York RI’s ninth when she collected a goal kick and powered forward. She played a lovely ball to Chloe J, whose shot was saved by the goalkeeper but Denva was following in and managed to scramble the ball over the line.

York continued to press and the goalkeeper saved well from Chloe J and Denva. Katie made her first real save a minute later when the ball rebounded off the York defence, and she bravely dived at the forwards feet. She made a better save on 40 minutes when a corner was only part cleared and the ball rebounded back to the Rawcliffe forward, she looked odds on to score but Katie made a great save.

Chloe J finally got her hat trick with the goal of the game. A corner to Rawcliffe was cleared by Lauren to Denva, who took one touch and released Chloe J with a perfect long pass. She took one touch before hammering the ball over the goalkeeper into the roof of the net, great finish!

With six minutes to go, York got their last when Alexia hammered the ball in from just outside the box. Tegan nearly got her first goal for York RI when her first time shot was well saved.

Final Score: Rawcliffe U13s 0 – York Railway Institute U13s 11

Coach Suzy was pleased by the whole team’s performance, she said ‘We expected a strong game from Rawcliffe today but we just blew them out of the water, the whole team was brilliant. From the first minute to the last we looked like we could score goals.’

When asked about captain Denva’s performance she said ‘She was totally dominating today, she pretty much had a hand in every goal, superb captain’s display. Since Christmas she has become the player we all know she can be, Chris will be gutted to have missed it.’
