Match Report

On a cold windy Saturday morning York Railway Institute U13 girls entertained Copmanthorpe in their latest league game. The kick off was delayed an hour to allow the pitch to soften a little.

Team selection was Katie in goal, who is starting to find her best form again, Chloe H and Lauren started in defence, with Lucy having a start in midfield with Denva, as Amber was missing through illness. Alexia and Chloe J continued their formidable partnership upfront which has so far yielded over 80 goals, with Tegan and Kimberly starting on the bench.

From the kick off York RI dominated possession and took the lead after only 6 minutes when a good move involving Chloe H, Denva and Lucy put Alexia through on goal for a simple finish.

York created several good chances but found the Copmanthorpe goalkeeper on great form, saving from point-blank range from Alexia. After 15 minutes Chloe H and Lauren were replaced by Tegan and Kimberly. Denva dropped in defence and Alexia moved to midfield.

Copmanthorpe were getting more into the game and a forced a couple of good saves from Katie. On 22 minutes York RI extended their lead. Denva was brought down by the Copmanthorpe defence, and from the free kick, Alexia belted the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal from over 20 yards.

Just on half time York RI extended their lead with Chloe J running on to a great ball from Denva, she calmly placed the ball past the static Copmanthorpe goalkeeper.

Half Time: C0pmanthorpe U13s 0 – York Railway Institute 3

The second half started much as the first with York RI dominating possession and Copmanthorpe having good breaks to test Katie in the York RI goal. The Copmanthorpe goalkeeper was continuing to frustrate as she saved well from Chloe J, Alexia and Denva. A minute later Alexia should have scored. A great through ball from Lauren saw Alexia race through with a one on one but she placed her shot just past the far post.

On 40 minutes the goal of the game extended York RI lead. Kimberly controlled a clearance on halfway and played a clever ball into Denva. She swapped passes with Alexia and Lauren, before putting Chloe J in, who finished smartly from a tight angle, a superb team goal.

The tackle of the match came with just over 8 minutes to go. The Copmanthorpe forward was racing down the York RI left and Chloe H came across and with a crunching tackle won the ball before playing Alexia in on goal. Chloe H just jumped up and continued as if nothing had happened!

With nearly the last kick of the game Denva got the goal she deserved. She picked up the ball deep inside her own half and drove at the Copmanthorpe defence, before passing to Alexia, whose first time shot was saved by the Copmanthorpe keeper, but the ever alert Denva followed up for a simple tap in.

Final Score: C0pmanthorpe U13s 0 – York Railway Institute 5

In conversation afterwards Coach Chris Collins said ‘Copmanthorpe always bring a good side and at times today we were under pressure, their goalkeeper was superb today. Chloe J’s second goal was how we would like the girls to play all the time, with quick simple passing and movement.’ When asked about Katie’s performance, he said ‘It is good to see Katie getting back to her best, she is showing much more concentration and her communication has greatly improved, overall a good performance.’

Awards:

Respect Award – Alexia – it was obvious during the game that Alexia was trying really hard to get other players on the score sheet, and most notably Tegan, fantastic team player and definitely deserves the Respect award.

Team Award – Katie – for a lot of the season she is a spectator but when called on she has made some fantastic saves, she is getting back to her best, well played Katie.

Man Of The Match – Chloe H – her tackling, especially in the second half was simply breath-taking and has earned her the new nickname ‘Rocky’, fantastic all round performance, all she needs now is a goal to cap a great season so far!
