League Game 13 – City of York Girls U13s League 2015-2016
York Railway Institute U13s 7 – Kirk Deighton Rangers U13s 1
Goalscorers – Alexia x3, Chloe J x2, Denva, Own Goal
After a two-week break York Railway Institute U13 Girls got their league campaign back under way. Coach Chris started with Katie in goal, Chloe H and Lauren in defence, captain Denva and Amber in midfield, Alexia and Chloe J up front and with Kimberly absent due to a heavy cold, Lucy and Tegan started as substitutes.
Once again York RI scored within 40 seconds of the kick off. A long throw from Denva was collected by Alexia in the Kirk Deighton penalty area and she calmly placed the ball past the goalkeeper. This was York RI’s 100th league goal of the season. They are only 23 behind their best ever season and still seven games to go, surely they will beat their record?
York RI went 2 up after good work from Chloe H and Amber, who fed Denva near the halfway line. She drove at the defence before playing a ball inside for Alexia to score from close range. On 8 minutes York RI made it 3 when the impressive Amber picked out Denva with a lovely lofted pass, and Denva bundled the ball over the line – not her greatest finish!
Chloe J was replaced by Tegan just after the goal with a leg injury, and York RI nearly got a fourth when direct from a free-kick Alexia rifled the ball just wide. Katie was called into her first action when she saved a well struck long-range shot from the Kirk Deighton player. Direct from the save Denva broke up field before a clever ball inside saw Amber shoot just wide.
York RI were controlling the match and Lucy, who replaced Denva, saw a first time effort go just wide. On 18 minutes’ good work from Alexia, saw Amber’s long-range shot whistle just passed the far post.
Against the run of play, Kirk Deighton got one back. A mix up in the York defence saw Chloe H and Lauren miss the ball and let the forward roll the ball past the static Katie. Poor defending and goalkeeping, but something to work on in training!
Just before half time a short corner between Alexia and Amber, saw Amber fire another long-range shot just wide. On another day Amber could have a first half hat trick, all her efforts were brilliantly struck, but all just drifted wide.
Half Time: York Railway Institute U13s 3 – Kirk Deighton Rangers U13s 1
Straight from the kick off Kirk Deighton caught York RI sleeping and Katie had to drive bravely at the forward’s feet to save a certain goal. York got their 5th on 28 minutes when another long throw from Denva hit an unfortunate Kirk Deighton defender and ended up in the back of the net.
Denva missed a glorious opportunity to grab her second when good work from Alexia and Amber put Chloe J clear on the right. Her cross needed just a simple tap in but Denva arriving at the back post, completely missed her kick.
Chloe J got her first of the game on 38 minutes. Chloe H, who with Lauren looked very reliable in defence, fed Alexia in midfield. It looked as if the chance had gone but Denva collected the loose ball, fed Alexia, who in turn found Chloe J just inside the penalty area. She took one touch and smashed the ball into the far top corner of the net, superb finish.
Lauren nearly got on the score sheet when she collected a short corner from Chloe J, her cross shot skimmed the foot of the far post with the defence and goalkeeper just watching. A minute later the alert Chloe J beat the defender to the short goal kick and hit her first time shot just wide.
On 44 minutes Alexia completed yet another hat trick when she fired home from Denva’s pass. York RI nearly got their seventh when the improving Lucy fed Chloe J, her snap shot was well saved by the goalkeeper. Tegan quickly followed up but the goalkeeper saved again. Tegan is not having much luck in front of goal but her first York RI goal cannot be far away.
A minute from time York got the last goal of the game when Amber passes an inch perfect ball to Chloe J, who took one touch and passed the ball into the far corner, quality finish.
Final Score: York Railway Institute U13s 7 – Kirk Deighton Rangers U13s 1
Coach Chris said after the match ‘Having not played for two weeks showed, we were a bit rusty at the start, but the longer the game went on the better we played. I was particularly pleased with the shooting today, nearly the whole team had at least one shot today. We also kept the ball very well at times and showed patience when it mattered.’
When asked about individual players’ performance he chose instead to praise the whole team. He said ‘It is a team game and everyone has a job to do. Katie made a couple of great saves today, Chloe H and Lauren are a great partnership in defence, Denva and Amber covered every blade of grass between them, Alexia and Chloe have now scored 83 goals between them, and substitutes Tegan and Lucy had their best games yet, goals from both are not far away. The team spirit in this group is wonderful, they believe they are unbeatable.’

Respect Award – Amber – she was immense today, but she got this award for one moment in the match. She was kicked in a tackle but instead of complaining she ran on and created Chloe J’s second goal. Fantastic attitude and wonderful player, well done Amber!
Team Award – Chloe J – when she plays like this she is a world beater. Not only did she score two great goals, but she also created several others. Her passing was superb today and she chased balls all day long – would have been a candidate for man of the match if she had not got injured! Best game for a long time, well played Chloe J.
Man Of The Match – Denva – a real captains performance today right from the first whistle. She was very vocal throughout and had a hand in every goal. When she drives at the defence she looks very dangerous, but now she has learnt to pass the ball in these positions also, she is become a complete midfield player. Top game and well deserved!
