We finally got to the Grand Final after 3 weeks of great matches.  We wanted a good game for the last match, and boy did we get one!

Last time, we saw BFC Best Futsal Club easily beat Class On Grass and tonight they met again, but this time for silverware and bragging rights!

The game started with chances at both ends, before on 4 minutes Owen found Aiden with a quick pass, and he forced the ball home at the near post for BFC.  Class On Grass came storming back and on 10 minutes, Seamus ran from his own half, before swapping passes with Leon and beating Abbi.  BFC then took control with 2 quick goals from Dan and Aiden, to lead 3-1.  Aiden then completed his first half hat-trick with a smart finish, before Class On Grass grabbed a goal back when James G smashed home from a good pass from Harley.  Right on half time, Matilde added a 5th from a free kick after Reece in goal, had picked up the ball from a kick-in.  Half time: BFC Best Futsal Club 5 – Class On Grass 2.

Class On Grass knew they had to score quickly to get back into the game, but it was BFC’s Dan who scored next, when he hammered in an interception from Izac, 6-2 to BFC.  Was that game over, could Class On Grass come back from this?

James G grabbed a lifeline with 10 minutes to go, when he scored from right in front after good work from Seamus.  The goal of the night came with 8 minutes to go from Leon, when he set a screamer into Abbi’s top left hand corner, 6-4.  The game looked like it was slipping away from Class On Grass.  Abbi in BFCs goal was producing save after save, but with 30 seconds remaining Harley ran from his own half and rolled the ball passed Abbi, 6-5.  BFC immediately called for a timeout, as both sides looked very nervous.  From the kick off, Class On Grass regained the ball and threw everything at BFC, but some resolute defending kept them out until the final whistle.  Full time: BFC Best Futsal Club 6 – Class On Grass 5.

Delight for the winners and despair for the losers.  It was a fantastic final, that really could have gone either way, with chances galore at both ends.  We were delighted that Mr Barber, headmaster of Manor CE Academy watched the game and presented the medals and trophy.  He was very impressed at the technique and commitment of all the players.  It was the first time he has watched a game of futsal and wants to know more about the game.  We challenged him and his staff to a game against the coaches, watch this space!

Every team had played fantastic with over 30 players, girls and boys, from Years 7 to 10, being involved in the matches.  We have been asked to repeat the tournament again, so who knows what might happen in the summer term!
