The last leagues games, to decide who would appear in the Grand Final, were played on Wednesday afternoon.

First game saw The Lions Vs A Team, in a game the A Team had to win to stand any chance of progressing in the competition.  They got off to the perfect start when Sam scored after only 10 seconds.  The game was very cagey with both sides looking to defend deep and play on the counter attack.  After 10 minutes Josh equalised for The Lions and a minute later Olivia put them 2-1 ahead.  A well deserved equaliser for A Team came after a determined run from Kimberly.  Halftime, The Lions 2 – A Team 2.

The second half started with a quick goal for The Lions from Matthew, followed again in quick time with another from Josh.  The A Team were playing some good futsal, but just couldn’t find that killer touch when in front of goal, with Ruby, Sam and Kimberly all going close.  Two late goals from Josh made the final score The Lions 6 – A Team 2.

So, A Team finished last in the group and The Lions claimed their first win of the campaign.  Both sides played well, but The Lions took their chances and ultimately got the win their previous performances have deserved.

After the result in the first game, the second game of the night was a dress rehearsal of the Grand Final between BFC Best Futsal Club and Class On Grass.  Both sides were unbeaten and playing the best futsal of the tournament.  BFC got off to the perfect start when Dan scored inside the first 5 minutes.  Free scoring Class On Grass were struggling in front of goal and it was no surprise when BFC extended their lead through Izac.  Abbi, in the BFC goal was in inspired form, keeping out all Class On Grass could throw at her, and just on half time Matilde grabbed a third for BFC, making the half time score BFC Best Futsal Club 3 – Class On Grass 0

Class On Grass knew they had to start well and within a minute, top scorer Leon had got one back.  With 5 minutes we had a match on, when Seamus reduced the deficit to one.  The game became very cagey with both sides struggling to keep the ball.  The next goal was going to be crucial, and it came from the impressive Aiden, when he smashed in BFC’s 4th.  Class On Grass poured forward, looking for a goal and were caught on the break when Aiden, and then Matilde extended BFC’s lead.  The goal of the night was saved for the very last second, and really was route 1!  Abbi in the BFC goal, hammered the ball down field, Aiden’s flick header was met by another flick header from Dan, straight into the Class On Grass goal – fantastic to watch! Full time BFC Best Futsal Club 7 – A Team 2.

So, can we draw any pointers for the Grand Final in two weeks?  BFC were the better side on the day, but Class On Grass know they can play better.  Both sides showed lots of nerves and at times the game was scrappy.  All we can say, is don’t miss the Grand Final, it’s going to be a cracker!
