In the first game of the night, Class On Grass took on The Lions. Both team had new players from last week but it was Class On Grass who started the quickest, and raced in to 3-0 lead within the first 5 minutes. Matthew got one back just inside the 10-minute mark with a shot from halfway, but immediately Leon, with his 4th of the half-restored Class’s 3 goal advantage. Right on the stroke of half time Joe grabbed a goal back for The Lions. Halftime Class On Grass 4 – The Lions 2.
The Lions had to win this game to have any chance of qualifying for the finals in 3 week’s time. They reduced the deficit within a minute of the restart, when Matthew hammered home his second. A mistake by Class’s goalkeeper presented Joe with his second and The Lions were back on level pegging, 4-4. A minute later James pinched the ball from his brother and finished calmly to restore Class’s lead. Georgia added a 6th with a well taken goal before Josh raced onto a long ball, collided with the goalkeeper but the ball somehow rolled into an empty net, 5-4 and definitely game on! Could they come back again and force a winner? Unfortunately, that was as close as it got, with Class scoring 3 late goals to make the final score, Class On Grass 9 – The Lions 5.
So, Class On Grass qualify for the finals and The Lions will be fighting for the wooden spoon, come finals’ day. The Lions were much improved from last week, and must be confident of winning their last league game in two weeks’ time.
The second game of the night featured A Team against BFC Best Futsal Club. The A Team couldn’t afford to lose if they were to make the finals, BFC Best Futsal Club just need a win to secure their place in the finals. First blood went to A Team, when Ruby finished smartly. But, back came BFC with quick goals from Dan and Aiden, for them to lead 3-1. Sam scored to make it 3-2 before Dan completed his first half hat-trick with another competent finish. Ruby grabbed a late goal for A Team right on the stroke of halftime, making it BFC Best Futsal Team 4 – A Team 3 at the interval.
The A Team knew they needed to get off to a flying start in the second half but it was Aiden who scored first for BFC. The game flowed from one end to the other, with neither side able to get the killer touch to some good play. A time out was called by A Team as they saw the game slipping away from them. Immediately after the restart, Harry smashed one back for the A Team and with their next attack, Ruby drew the scores level 5-5. Just as you thought A Team would snatch a winner and with only a minute to go, Aiden scored a well worked goal. But, yet, the drama was not over! With only 3 seconds on the clock, Harry smashed a hopeful ball forward, Abbi in the BFC goal caught the ball but her hands were outside the D, free kick to A Team. The referee told the players he would allow 3 seconds of play before blowing for full-time. Sam calmly rolled the ball across for Ruby, in the middle of the goal, to tap home. Full time BFC Best Futsal Club 6 – A Team 6.
After an amazing match, both teams can still qualify for the final. BFC Best Futsal Club are in pole position and if results go as expected, it will probably go down to goal difference or even goals scored. Mixed emotions from both teams, but a great spectacle for all to witness, and played in a superb manner.
So, Class On Grass book their place in the final with one match to spare and huge well done to them. The other final place will be from either A Team or BFC Best Futsal Club, with the latter having their fate in their own hands. The Lions could still play a major role in who gets to the final!
