The Lions

The Lions started their first ever futsal game with a tough one against one of the favourites, BFC Best Futsal Club.  In an open start, no team took control but then Josh pounced on a poor pass and smashed the ball into the net to give the Lions the lead.  Within a minute, a move involving the Doodson brothers saw Owen put Aiden through and he scored from a tight angle.  The game was end to end with both teams creating good chances but the goalkeepers, Abbi and Kacper, were on top form.  At the first timeout, both teams were level at 1-1.  The game continued at a pace and just before half time a through ball from Owen to Dan, saw him score easily, 2-1 to BFC.  That’s how the first half-finished, anyone’s game in the second!

BFC Best Futsal Club

BFC Best Futsal Club extended their lead after only 2 minutes of the second half when Dan’s first shot was saved bravely by Kacper, but the rebound fell to Dan’s feet and he smashed the ball into an empty net.  Josh capitalised on a long clearance from Kacper, to poke the ball home and reduce the lead to 3-2.  Dan restored BFC Best Futsal Club’s two goal lead when he scored from just inside the area.  Abbi gifted the Lions their third goal when she handled the ball outside the area, and Josh hammered in the resulting free kick.  After the last timeout, both sides created great chances but neither could score.  The game finished 4-3 to BFC Best Futsal Club.

Class On Grass

In the other game of the night, the A Team took on Class On Grass, and this was definitely a game of two halves.  Within in a minute of the start, Sam had scored the opener.  Thirty seconds later, Harry had added a second.  The A Team were in total control at this point and Harry scored his second from a direct free-kick after 3 minutes.  James H got Class On Grass on the score sheet with their first shot on target after 6 minutes to make it 3-1, but within a minute Ruby had extended the A Team’s lead to 4-1, and it remained this way at the first timeout.  Immediately after the time out, a great ball from James G put Leon clean through and he finished with ease.  Half time, Class On Grass 2 BFC Best Futsal Club 4.

A Team

First goal of the second half was going to be crucial in this game, and so it proved.  A long-range shot from James H was parried by Ruby in goal and James G scored the rebound.  A good pass from Seamus put Leon clear and he levelled the match, 4-4.  The game was end to end, with both sides creating chances but it was Class On Grass who took the lead after some persistent work by James G, to score from a very tight angle.  Within 30 seconds, they had gone further ahead with a quick snap shot from Leon.  The A Team were on the ropes now and struggling to put two passes together.  Just before the second timeout Sam had a great chance to grab one back for the A Team but his shot was too high.  A good passing move between James H and Seamus saw Leon power in his fourth of the night.  Seamus got his team’s final goal after finishing smartly.  The A Team continued to make chances but Harley in the Class On Grass goal was in inspired form.  Final score Class On Grass 8 The A Team 4.

The game could have gone either way, especially after half time.  Both sides played some great futsal, it was just their finishing that let the A Team down.

After both games, it is very hard to pick an overall winner, with all the sides very closely matched.  The Lions did brilliant on their futsal debut and on another day, would have come away with a win; they can only get stronger.  The A Team will be disappointed in a game they were dominating at half time; they stopped passing the ball and must improve their finishing.  Class On Grass were saved by Harley in goal. Without him the game would have gone the other way.  BFC Best Futsal Club looked the best bet so far for the overall winners.  They played some great futsal and worked as a team all night, captained brilliantly by Matilde.  It was definitely a night for the goalkeepers with Kacper, Abbi, Ellen and Harley all making crucial saves.
