On Sunday 22 April, Bootham Futsal Club played their second futsal match
They played 25 minutes each way with a continuous clock, and the players were allowed to pass back to the goalkeeper, otherwise it was normal futsal rules.
The team was:
Bootham Futsal Club – Abbi, Ruby, Elizabeth, Freya, Hannah, Emily-Sue, Holly, Amy, Molly
The game was a chance for some of the younger Bootham players to show they abilities in front of plenty of supporters. The game started at a frantic pace and Hessle took the lead after 3 minutes, when Bootham gave the ball away close to their goal, and Abbi was left with no chance. Bootham came storming back and created great chances for Ruby, Elizabeth and Emily-Sue. But, Hessle went further ahead on 9 minutes, when they capitalised on another mistake from the Bootham defence.
Bootham created chance after chance but could not beat the Hessle goalkeeper, who kept out more shots from Ruby, Elizabeth and Freya. It looked as if Bootham would never score but on 14 minutes a great run from Ruby, was turned home at the far post by a diving Elizabeth. Late on Holly won the ball on halfway and saw her fantastic shot cannon off the foot of the post.
Half time Bootham Futsal Club 1 – 2 Hessle Rangers Girls
The second half started with Bootham drawing level after only 3 minutes. Again good work from Elizabeth saw her play a great ball to Ruby, who finished smartly. Hessle came back strongly and Abbi needed to be alert to save smartly on several occasions. On 12 minutes Hessle retook the lead with a well taken goal. Hannah was proving to be a rock in defence for Bootham and not much was getting passed her.
The game turned in a 3 minutes spell when the attacking pair of Ruby and Elizabeth added four goals without reply for Bootham. The last 6 minutes were a great defensive display from Emily-Sue, Holly, Amy and Molly. They really dug in and refused to let Hessle score. Abbi finished the game with another fantastic save right on the final whistle.

Girl Of The Game – Hannah – she did the job of the last defender brilliantly, very rarely giving the ball away, but defending sensibly and very effectively, her passing was simple and very good. Well done Hannah, brilliant display!
In conversation afterwards Coach Chris said ‘What a fantastic game to watch. I was really happy with how both sets of 4’s played. The older group always looked like scoring goals, and had so many shots, credit to the Hessle goalkeeper, she played brilliantly. I am glad Ruby got herself some goals, she never stopped running all game, and a great captains performance.’
He went on to say, ‘I was particularly pleased with the second group of four, namely Emily-Sue, Holly, Amy and Molly. They worked so hard and recovered well all through the game. I liked the way they tried to pass the ball all over the court, fantastic to watch. I have to remember some of the opposition are 2 years older than these girls, so what a superb performance.’
